Day 2 of 31: When TGIF Changes Meaning
It’s finally TGIF.
That feeling of “Friday” has shifted a lot over the years. When working for a company, Fridays used to mean freedom, the countdown to switching off, getting some rest, and temporarily stepping away from anything work-related. It was the mental signal that the week was over and life could resume for a couple of days.
Now, as a founder, Fridays feel very different. For the last few years, weekends have become something to look forward to, but not as an escape from work. Instead, they are the best time to dive deeper into it. With no meetings, no client calls, and no team chats, weekends have turned into focused work sprints. They are often when the real progress happens. The moments to reset the week, clean up the backlog, and make headway on the tasks that actually move the product forward.
Yesterday was all about catching up. It was a day of wrapping up pending reviews and clearing the backlog to set a clear direction for the rest of the month. That kind of housekeeping work isn’t glamorous, but it removes friction for everything that comes next. Today continued in the same spirit, closing off a few pending code reviews and tidying up the repositories. Small actions, but they make the upcoming improvements easier to work on and less mentally heavy to approach.
This weekend’s focus is a big one, revisiting one of our core modules which is the user subscription and permission system. It’s deeply integrated across almost 20 apps inside the platform and is crucial for the long‑term stability of the product. Touching it means being extra careful, but also knowing that improvements here will have a wide impact across the entire ecosystem.
Weekends may no longer be about switching off, but they have become something else. Quiet, intentional time to build. Let’s see how this one goes.
